When talking about Penghu, the most well-known event is probably the Penghu Fireworks Festival in summer. Many people take this opportunity to enjoy the sunshine, beaches, and bikinis during the height of summer. However, the scorching sun and high temperatures during the peak travel season can be exhausting — just waiting for restaurants or water activities can leave you drenched in sweat. But actually, besides summer, autumn in Penghu has many attractions worth visiting. As for seafood, autumn is the season that locals strongly recommend as peak harvest time. Below, we’ll recommend 5 ways to enjoy Penghu in autumn without taking a boat or island-hopping — even the locals have a great time doing them!

1. Stroll on the beach and witness the Moses Parting the Sea phenomenon
When the weather cools down and water activities aren’t possible, don’t worry — walking along the beaches in Penghu with the clear sea and fine white sand is just as good as Okinawa’s. In early autumn, Penghu still gets occasional sunny days. With pleasant temperatures and cool sea breezes, paired with the blue sea and sky before you, it really feels like you’re on holiday in Okinawa. Summer has fireworks lighting up the sky — autumn brings light shows projected onto temples. In 2016, the Penghu County Government expanded the Suogang Light Show, combining dazzling projection technology with the solemn Zihci Temple. The show transformed Penghu’s famous local attractions and specialties into colorful images, projected onto Taiwan’s most complex building façade. The stunning audiovisual experience is truly breathtaking. During the event, famous singers were also invited to perform live, making Penghu come alive even more at night.
