The Camel Mountaineering Team of Peking University’s Animaqing and the Camel Scientific Expedition Team of Peking University’s Great Mountain Eagle Society for Gongga Mountainon2015April5May4were officially established and entered the preliminary preparation phase. So far, they have completed1weeks of physical training and team-building activities.

5August9to10, the two teams jointly went toLingshan Mountainfor heavy-load training, aiming to develop the members' ability to ascend, traverse ridges, and descend slopes while carrying loads, in preparation for summer climbing and hiking activities. The required load for this training was20kilograms for male members of the mountaineering team,18kilograms for female members,18kilograms for male members of the scientific expedition team, and15kilograms for female members. During the training, the team encountered freezing rain and icy weather. Thanks to thorough preparation, the overall condition of the members remained good, and the training was successfully completed. The harsh weather and unexpected situations provided the team with a more diverse training experience, enhancing their adaptability and mental resilience. A reasonable ratio of new to veteran members, correct decision-making, adequate preparation, and a positive mindset were key factors ensuring the successful completion of the training.
The purpose of this training was not only physical conditioning and outdoor skill development but also team integration. Clear division of roles and active cooperation among positions such as team leader, logistics, finance, media, cashier, medic, recorder, photographer, training coordinator, videographer, and sponsor helped foster mutual understanding.
This year’s mountaineering team consists of17members, including9veteran members with mountain-climbing experience and8new members. The target peak for this year is Animaqing Mountain in Qinghai Province. Also known as Maji Snow Mountain, its main peak, Majenggangri, stands at an elevation of6282meters and is located in the northwest of Maqin County, Golog Prefecture. It is one of China’s ten officially opened peaks. Comprising13peaks, Animaqing Mountain has an average elevation of over5900meters. Due to its high altitude, the area features changeable weather, towering ice peaks, and glacier coverage of approximately126square kilometers, with57glaciers in total. Among them, the Halong Glacier on the northeastern slope is7.7kilometers long, covers an area of24square kilometers, and features a vertical drop of1800meters. This year's scientific expedition team consists of14members and will head to the Gongga Mountain National Nature Reserve and surrounding areas in Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Located in western Sichuan on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is home to Gongga Mountain. As one of the world's25global biodiversity hotspots and a typical representative of the Hengduan Mountain region, Gongga Mountain nurtures a rich variety of flora and fauna. It is inhabited by wildlife such as giant pandas, red pandas, golden monkeys, and white-lipped deer, as well as valuable medicinal herbs like gastrodia elata, cordyceps, and fritillaria. It is known as the““Treasure Trove of Flora and Fauna.””is known as.2015This year, the ShanYing Science Expedition Team will also collaborate with professional nature conservation organizations. They plan to conduct research related to the protection of the western slope of the Gongga Mountain National Nature Reserve. The team will carry out a three-week investigation in the reserve and nearby villages, engaging in scientific exploration activities centered on biodiversity and related topics.
The Peking University ShanYing Society2015Since the establishment of its mountaineering and scientific expedition teams, strict training and activity schedules have been set. To cope with the harsh local environment, both teams will undergo five weeks of progressively intensive physical training. Weekend activities will also include a series of field drills and quality development exercises. In addition, the mountaineering team will receive rigorous technical climbing instruction aimed at strengthening their physical fitness, developing climbing skills, and building internal team cohesion.
