Disneytown will offer a unique dining, shopping, and world-class entertainment experience
SHANGHAI, June 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- While the construction of Shanghai Disney Resort continues to progress steadily, the resort today announced the first tenants of its distinctive shopping, dining, and entertainment district—Disneytown. These tenants include a host of well-known and trusted domestic and international brands, such as top-tier restaurants like Shanghai Min, Jade 36, and The Cheesecake Factory operated by Hong Kong’s Maxim’s Group, as well as retail outlets including i.t and BAPE STORE® under the I.T Group, and the LEGO Brand Retail store. In addition, a series of popular and widely favored dining and retail brands—including Food Republic, Iago Thai, Namco, Izakaya Den, Blue Frog Restaurant & Bar, Shin Wang Restaurant, BreadTalk, Toast Box, and Chow Tai Fook—have also become the first confirmed brands among dozens of tenants at Disneytown. They will work closely with Shanghai Disney Resort to jointly provide guests with world-class shopping and dining experiences.
The shopping, dining, and entertainment district is one of the key features of all Disney resorts worldwide, offering guests a comprehensive vacation experience alongside world-class theme parks and hotels. Upon opening, Shanghai Disney Resort’s Disneytown will feature a 46,000-square-meter pedestrian area that is open to the public free of charge. This area is adjacent to Shanghai Disneyland Park and just a short walk from Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel. When the resort grandly opens in spring 2016, Disneytown will welcome nearly 50 tenants, offering guests a diverse range of high-quality shopping options—from upscale and premium casual to young fashion—as well as a variety of quality restaurants for gathering with family and friends.
“The resort is working closely with a wide array of domestic and international brands to present these well-known names in entirely new and exciting ways at Disneytown, delivering a unique experience for our guests,” said Philippe Gas, General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. “Day or night, guests can stroll through the picturesque outdoor areas, take in the lakeside scenery, and fully enjoy premium dining, shopping, and entertainment.”
The design team behind Disneytown brought together creative talents from across the globe at Disney, taking full account of the preferences of Chinese guests and perfectly blending Disney traditions with classic Chinese design elements and Shikumen architectural styles. Traditional Shikumen architecture is prominently featured in Disneytown, reflecting Disney’s tribute to this unique aspect of Shanghai’s heritage. Disneytown will consist of five distinct zones—Town Lake, Town Market, Bazaar Street, Broadway Boulevard, and Broadway Square. Each area offers its own unique characteristics, providing guests with a rich variety of distinctive experiences.
Disneytown tenants will collaborate closely with Shanghai Disney Resort to meticulously craft every detail—from store décor to menu design—to deliver a one-of-a-kind shopping, dining, and entertainment experience. A wide range of delicious offerings will be found throughout Disneytown. In the romantic theatre district of Broadway Square, guests can dine in elegant restaurants and savor refined cuisine. Shanghai Min and Jade 36 will be located here, serving authentic Shanghai-style and Cantonese dishes respectively, with balconies offering stunning views of Shanghai Disneyland Park. The first Asian flagship store of The Cheesecake Factory, opened by Hong Kong’s Maxim’s Group, along with a new-concept Blue Frog Restaurant & Bar, will be situated on Broadway Boulevard. Bazaar Street combines a rich array of Asian cuisines with a relaxing and fun atmosphere, featuring food choices such as Food Republic’s unique Southeast Asian and local Chinese flavors, Iago Thai’s Thai dishes, and the delicate Shanghai dim sum and dishes from Namco. The relaxed dining experience in Town Market will include the all-day Hong Kong-style restaurant Shin Wang Restaurant, as well as freshly baked goods from BreadTalk and Toast Box. Guests can also enjoy a diverse range of food options in the Town Lake area, where California-style Japanese restaurant Izakaya Den is located. From north to south, visitors can also admire views of Wishing Star Lake, the Enchanted Storybook Castle, and Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.
To create a diversified shopping experience for guests, Disneytown will not only offer unique Disney merchandise but also feature a wide selection of other shopping options, including the renowned fashion brand collective i.t, the high-end youth and children’s fashion brand BAPE STORE®, and the premium jewelry retail brand Chow Tai Fook. Additionally, some brands will use their presence in Disneytown as a new way to enter the Chinese mainland market for the first time, such as the first LEGO Group Asia-operated flagship retail store. Together, these brands will provide guests with a comprehensive and diverse shopping experience, as well as exclusive products available only at Shanghai Disney Resort.
Shanghai Disney Resort continues to seek and select globally renowned domestic and international brands to enrich the guest experience at Disneytown. Disneytown will be an ideal destination for guests to spend leisure time with family and friends, with new and exciting experiences awaiting in every corner. It appeals to visitors of all ages and will become a “must-visit” place for all Shanghai residents and tourists.
