The theme of this forum was "The Power of Transcendence and Innovation." In the morning’s speeches and discussions, Mr. Chen Xianwei, Vice Chairman of the Hotel Managers Magazine Council and President of City Celebrity Hotel, delivered the opening speech on behalf of Hotel Managers Magazine: On the Path to Transcendence and Innovation. He stated that the rise of individuality in hotel development converged historically in 2015. After the deep integration of informatization and hotels, the flow of innovative elements in hotels became unprecedentedly active, restructuring accelerated continuously, presenting a rare historical opportunity for the transformation of China’s hotels. Mr. Chen mainly analyzed from three aspects: first, the reconstruction of hotel power under new business models; second, the construction of talent echelons and talent patterns; third, “experience” as the eternal core.
Regarding the challenges faced by the development of Sichuan’s hotel industry, Professor Li Yuan from Sichuan University’s Tourism College offered two dreams for the industry in his speech titled “Where Is the Dream of Sichuan’s Hotel Industry?”: rapidly integrating into the mobile internet era and comprehensively enhancing hotel quality.
On the topics of direct investment vs. leasing and how to evaluate investment returns, Ms. Yuan Xueya, Chief Consulting Officer of Shanghai Xingshuo Hotel Management Consulting Co., Ltd., used charts to compare the models of investing in properties and leasing properties, pointing out the profit points of each respectively.
Mr. Zhang Jingbang, General Manager of Junyu Hotel Group, shared insights on domestic and international hotel acquisitions: how to evaluate assets? How to sell at a good price? He used numerous project examples to explain domestic and international hotel acquisitions and also mentioned a hot topic of particular interest to hotel professionals this year—asset management and global asset allocation.
How should hotels operate within large-scale complexes in 2015? How can they complement other business formats? To address this issue, Ms. Zou Min, Deputy General Manager of Yintai Land Chengdu Yincheng Real Estate and General Manager of Waldorf Astoria Hotel Owner, provided an answer. First, the considerations for operating a standalone or group hotel differ from those for operating a hotel within a commercial complex. In large complexes, there are many stakeholders, and their relationship with commerce and hotels is permanent and involves repeated subsequent consumption. Second, when choosing a hotel brand within a complex, beyond using the brand itself to enhance the image of the complex, it is more important to consider factors such as the urban population where the complex is located, the consumption level, and the harmony between surrounding commerce and the hotel brand. Third, facing numerous surrounding stakeholders and tenants, hotel owners and operators must strengthen control and management—not only ensuring the initial consumption of the entire project but also guaranteeing its subsequent repeated consumption. Fourth, within the construction of the complex, many large facilities including parking lots can share resources and complement each other. However, attention to detail is essential when considering these.
Mingyu Hotels has been in the hotel industry for 20 years, with hotels, real estate, and finance as its three main industries, and hotels as the leading sector. Mr. Chen Wei, President of Mingyu Hotel Group, shared three topics based on the innovation and practice of Mingyu Hotel Group: first, the background and current status of the domestic hotel group development; second, related reflections on domestic hotel group development; third, exploration and practice of hotel group development.
Mr. Fu Quanyong, Chief CIO of Kaiyuan Hotels Group and General Manager of Jinshanzi Technology Co., Ltd., discussed how alliances can be built in two ways: one is a B2C value platform centered around members, and the other is a system targeting corporate clients and salespeople. He gave a keynote speech titled “Everyone is a Booker, Everyone is a Salesperson,” focusing on the latter.
In the afternoon’s speeches and dialogues, Mr. Yang Shibing, Vice President of Inns Hideaway Hotel Group, and Mr. Chen Gang, COO of Maijia Community Hotel, respectively gave speeches on the operation and development of boutique hotels and community hotels: “When Boutique Hotels Become the Stage, Who Dances Along?” and “When Hotels Become Platforms—How to Integrate Online and Offline Resources.” Mr. Yang Shibing mentioned that hotel professionals need to return to the essence of hotel products and services and to do well in the “three reductions and one addition,” namely “reduce products,” “reduce channels,” “reduce staff,” and “add services.” Mr. Chen Gang said that Maijia has five major sections in its online client app, and there is also an offline activity within the Maijia client. The innovative platform of Maijia integrates Maijia hotels with offline customers to create a vertical online-offline connection, thereby driving consumption.
Additionally, regarding issues with standalone hotels, Mr. Lu Feng, General Manager of Yi Hotel, and Mr. Xuan Lequn, Chairman of Yuyao Yonghegong Grand Hotel, respectively delivered keynote speeches titled “How Standalone Hotels Can Improve Occupancy Rate and Average Room Rate” and “The Voice of a Standalone Hotel in a Fourth-Tier City—Different Eras, Different Paths.” Among them, Mr. Lu Feng shared successful experiences using Yi Hotel as an example: first, promoting West Lake culture effectively, and second, emphasizing the quality of Yi Hotel.
Mr. Xuan Lequn believes that running a hotel requires endurance—without it, everything is empty. A hotel must integrate quality, service, culture, and connotation. Whether it is a standalone hotel, a chain, or a brand, this is the vitality of a hotel.
In the final segment, the award ceremony of the 8th China Hotel Golden Dragon Awards was grandly held. The cultural significance of the China Hotel Golden Dragon Awards—dragon has always been a spiritual symbol and totem in the 5,000-year history of the Chinese nation. Using the Golden Dragon Award as one of the highest symbolic representations of the brand image of China’s hotel industry signifies that China’s hotel industry, now a global hotel powerhouse, is showcasing an industry demeanor that keeps pace with the times under the inspiring spirit of the dragon’s indomitable era.
