As the captain of the Chinese climbing team, Zhong Qixin’s championship win is undoubtedly an inspiration to his teammates. However, Luo Shen, head of the Mountaineering and Climbing Department of the Chinese Mountaineering Association, stated that apart from Zhong Qixin, there is still a significant gap between us and the world’s top level—especially as Japan has begun to prioritize climbing and aims to include it in the2020Olympic Games while sending a strong team to compete. The next step for the Chinese team is to research scientific training methods, train rigorously and with high standards, consolidate traditional strong events, nurture reserve talent, and strive for breakthroughs in difficulty and bouldering events. The hope is to medal in speed climbing at the Asian Games in Indonesia two years from now, and to reach the finals in both difficulty and bouldering competitions.
It is understood that the venue for this competition, whether in terms of exterior design or the quality of the climbing walls and holds, is world-class. The event’s preparation, organization, and execution feature unique expertise, setting a high standard for climbing competitions and playing a positive role in promoting climbing’s inclusion in the Olympic Games.
