The Dream Journey of Baristas

Shanghai, July 10, 2015 / PRNewswire/ -- Coffee is not just a beverage, but also an art, and baristas are the expressers of this art. What baristas make is not just a cup of coffee, but the creation of a coffee culture, embellishing the quality of life. Therefore, rather than saying that baristas are mixing coffee, it is more accurate to say that they are actually sculpting people's lives.

Competition Overview:

  1. Contestants will be judged by four sensory judges, two technical judges, and one head judge.
  2. Each contestant must prepare a total of 12 drinks within 15 minutes, serving one espresso, one cappuccino, and one signature drink (based on espresso and non-alcoholic) to each of the four sensory judges. The head judge may taste any drink passed on by the sensory judges.
  3. The order of drink service is determined by the contestant, but each category of drinks must be served completely (all four based on a full shot of espresso) and consecutively; otherwise, the contestant will be deemed unqualified. Preparation of signature drink elements and related service can be carried out at any time during the competition.
  4. How the four drinks in each category are presented is up to the contestant (one at a time, two at a time, or all four together). Once served, the sensory judges will immediately evaluate the drinks.
  5. The four drinks in each category must use the same coffee beans; however, different categories may use different beans. All four drinks in each category must use the same ingredients and follow the same preparation method. Intentional variation in preparation and presentation within the same category (deviating from the method and recipe of the first drink served in that category) will result in a zero score for taste balance.
  6. During the competition, contestants may prepare any number of drinks, but only the ones served will be evaluated by the sensory judges.

Competition Schedule:

Date: August 5–7, 2015
