The ads for daigou on Moments, inspirational quotes on Weibo, and Momo’s reputation that just won’t wash clean of its dating and hook-up image—these entirely online, virtual platforms are clearly not the social environment that post-90s generations want. What post-90s want is to find friends who share common interests and topics, to share and vent together, to have fun and show off. They hope to express their inner thoughts bluntly, to showcase what they like and gain recognition, and to be their most sunny selves.

The “Light Outdoor” app that we’re introducing today is a vertical sharing community for young people, interest-driven and centered around outdoor activities, tailored for the post-90s generation.

Let’s take a look at the activity channel on Light Outdoor. Fun things are about to happen—easily find the most interesting people around the world to hang out with. Here, you can book fun companions anytime, experience different lifestyles, and if you’re a unique and interesting person willing to share your uniqueness, you can also become a Xiaodada and share your joy.

Is this just Activity in a new name?

After the Light Outdoor app was launched on the app market, users who had tried Activity raised doubts, believing it to be nothing more than Activity under a new name, with content focused entirely on activities and only the name changed.

So are these two apps really the same? Here’s the summary after our editor’s experience:

First, Activity does not allow users to follow others and cannot be considered a true social app in the strict sense.

Second, Light Outdoor features a “Dynamic” section where all user-posted content is displayed—that is, the updates from your followed friends. In contrast, Activity does not have this section.

Another impression is that Light Outdoor’s founding team consists entirely of post-90s individuals, and the app is positioned as a post-90s activity and social platform. Much of the design was informed by feedback from post-90s users, and during the beta testing phase, numerous post-90s users participated in product planning and design, contributing many of their own ideas and suggestions. On Light Outdoor, there are no privileges, no hook-ups, no trolls—just being true to yourself, being your most genuine and sunny self, and sharing the most authentic feelings.

No matter when or where you are, what kind of crowd you’re in, or what interests you have, you can always find a group of people just like you—and that’s the core of Light Outdoor as an activity-based social product.
