According to an interview with a relevant person in charge of Yunnan Yang Liping Culture Communication Co., Ltd., Yang Liping will launch a brand-new dance work titled "Ambush from Ten Sides" on August 11, 2015. The performance will premiere at the Experimental Theatre of Yunnan Arts University on September 11 and will be staged at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in October.
The inspiration for Yang Liping's new work comes from the well-known historical tale of the Chu-Han contention and the story of Farewell My Concubine. This brand-new dance piece boasts a highly impressive lineup of directors and dancers. Yang Liping has collaborated again with Oscar-winning visual master Tim Yip and, for the first time, has enlisted a Peking Opera dancer—Qiu Jirong, the inheritor of the Peking Opera Qiu School. Xiao Caiqi, who spun continuously for four hours during the Spring Festival Gala, will also star in this work.
In this new creation, Yang Liping incorporates modern elements while drawing on traditional culture, which has inevitably generated much anticipation. How will this brand-new work differ from Yang Liping’s previous productions? Let’s wait and see on September 11.
