The two-and-a-half-month-long 2015 "Red Bull Cup" Guangxi Football Super League concluded successfully at the Nanning No.1 High School Stadium. The final match featured two evenly matched teams, who had to settle the outcome with a penalty shootout. In the end, the "dark horse" Rongshui Sumeng Football Club, which "stayed strong till the end," defeated the Guangxi University of Technology team 5:3 to claim the league championship.
The two teams that made it to the final were evenly matched. The Rongshui team recruited outstanding players from Liuzhou and Beihai, emerging as a "dark horse" to reach the final. The Guangxi University of Technology team was mainly composed of elite players from Nanning and was the favorite to win the championship. In the two regular-season matches prior to the final, the Rongshui team defeated the Guangxi University of Technology team 2:0 away but also lost 0:1 at home. In terms of the age of the players, the Rongshui team had a slight advantage, with an all-young squad. The Guangxi University of Technology team, on the other hand, was a mix of experienced and new players, bringing experience to the field but facing a major test in stamina during the second half due to the scorching heat.
From the start of the match, both teams maintained a fast pace of attack and defense. The Rongshui team relied on their momentum to launch continuous counterattacks, frequently breaking into the penalty area of the Guangxi University of Technology team. Unfortunately, although their attacks were threatening, they only created chances without scoring. Their shots in moments of panic were either saved by the goalkeeper or blocked by the goalposts. It wasn’t until near the end of the first half that a Rongshui player intercepted the ball in midfield, bypassed the goalkeeper, and scored, putting the score at 1:0.
Despite conceding the first goal, the morale of the Guangxi University of Technology team remained largely unaffected. In the second half, they continued to play steadily and control the pace of the game. When the match reached the 80th minute, the Guangxi University of Technology team equalized 1:1 through a free kick, and that scoreline held until the final whistle.
In the subsequent penalty shootout, the Rongshui team scored four goals, while the Guangxi University of Technology team managed only two. Ultimately, Rongshui won 5:3 to take the league championship.
After the match, Lin Zhiwei, head coach of the Guangxi University of Technology team, commented: "This was a very exciting match. Both sides brought together excellent local and non-local players, and this was one of the higher-level encounters in this year’s Guangxi amateur football league."
