Ma Jian, a renowned Chinese basketball player, was known for his coordinated movements, quick reflexes, and all-around skills.
He was born in 1969 in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, joined the basketball training class at the Hebei Provincial Sports School in 1983, and was later successfully selected for the Hebei Provincial Youth Team, the Hebei Provincial Men’s Basketball Team, and the National Men’s Basketball Team.
Ma Jian was the first Chinese to play in the American professional basketball league. After the 25th Olympic Games in 1992, in pursuit of his dreams, Ma Jian braved various obstacles and resolutely went to the United States to study. After enduring many hardships, he finally realized his dream by joining the U.S. NCAA league, paving the way for subsequent Chinese players to enter American universities.
After graduating from Utah, Ma Jian appeared on the roster of the Los Angeles Clippers during the 1995 NBA preseason and averaged about 15 minutes of playing time per game. His performance both on and off the court drew active attention from his peers in China, making him a role model for Chinese male basketball players aiming to break into the world’s top basketball leagues.
After retiring, Ma Jian participated in the America’s Cup sailing race; worked in basketball broadcasting and behind-the-scenes management; and also ventured into the entertainment industry, starring in films such as "Ren Zai V 彩尽贰?", "Deng Gang Mei De Duo", "Du Shen Cai Bei Jiao", and "Die Xiao Chu Xian", delivering impressive performances.
