In recent years, skiing has become increasingly popular. With Beijing winning the bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, China’s winter sports industry has been elevated to a new level. During the first ski season following the successful Olympic bid, Chongli, the host area of the Winter Olympics in Zhangjiakou, also stepped into the international spotlight. On November 12, the brand launch event for the Taiwu Ski Resort, themed "Taiwu is Here," was grandly held in Beijing, marking the official debut of the authentic North American mountain resort brand "Taiwu Ski Resort" that "dances with nature." It is reported that the ski resort of Taiwu Ski Town will begin trial operations on December 15.
The Taiwu Ski Resort is located in the "world’s golden ski belt" at 41° north latitude, boasting an ultra-long skiing season of 150 days. The project covers a total land area of 40 square kilometers, with a built-up area of approximately 2 million square meters and a total investment exceeding 20 billion yuan, making it currently the largest comprehensive ski resort in China. The Taiwu Ski Resort was designed and planned by top international professional teams, with the ski runs master-planned by the world-renowned Canadian design firm Ecosign Mountain Resort Planners.
According to officials from the Taiwu Ski Resort, the resort is expected to develop nearly 200 ski runs, with a total length of 138 kilometers, and a ratio of beginner, intermediate, and advanced runs of 3:4:3. The first phase has completed 20 kilometers of ski runs, 28 runs covering a total of 720,000 square meters of snowmaking area, 4 chairlifts, and 11 magic carpets. Notably, the Taiwu Ski Resort has built the largest beginner ski run area in China so far, capable of hosting professional competitions while also meeting the needs of beginners.
The Taiwu Ski Resort not only offers winter snow activities but aims to build a true mountain resort lifestyle. To this end, the resort plans to construct six boutique hotels catering to different needs: a five-star Hyatt Hotel, a four-star Hyatt Place Hotel, a four-star Element by Westin Hotel, a four-star Taiwu Hotel, a hot spring suite hotel, and a youth hostel. High-end supporting facilities such as mountain hot springs, a small theater, KTV, cafes, mountaintop restaurants, a commercial street, and a conference center will also be successively opened between 2016 and 2017.
"In the future, the resort will regularly host a variety of distinctive cultural events such as music festivals, film festivals, art festivals, open-air performances, and food festivals, fully unleashing the boundless energy of 'mountain life.' During the non-snow season, extreme sports favorites of thrill-seekers such as mountain biking, go-karting, alpine ziplining, and rock climbing, as well as more peaceful outdoor activities close to nature like forest hiking, camping, and horseback riding, will all be open to the public next year," said Chen Gang, general manager of the Taiwu Ski Resort.
