Like many pet cafes,Ike Fukurou Cafereservations are required, but the great thing is that you can communicate in English here. If you don’t have a reservation, you can also try your luck by just dropping by. The experience usually lasts for 1 hour — upon entering, you pay for one hour of time and one drink (1,100 yen, or 1,500 yen including a cake set), and then you can enjoy some quality time with the owls.

You can gently stroke their heads and necks, or even hold one in your arms for a selfie that’s sure to blow up your social media. But before getting up close and personal with the owls, the staff will give you a detailed list of guidelines, which includes cleaning your hands with alcohol and avoiding touching sensitive areas like their bellies.

There are about 40 owls in the cafe, but you won’t be able to see them all at once — to prevent the owls from getting too tired, they operate on a shift system. The cafe also sells light meals, and the cute owl-shaped tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet rice) is definitely worth trying. On your way out, you can also pick up owl-themed souvenirs, such as keychains or fridge magnets.
