Reducing a scene or image down to just a few essential elements is a composition technique that can often feel refreshingly simple. Some photographers, when framing a shot, try to cram in every interesting thing they see. The problem with this approach is that the more objects, people, lines, shapes, and so on we try to fit into the frame, the more overwhelmed the viewer can become. In fact, when used skillfully,......negative space can also be a powerful and engaging compositional element.Thoughtfully leaving areas of the frame empty can produce surprisingly effective results, but it’s also a bit of a challenge. Sometimes the scene naturally provides negative space, while other times you may need to actively create it. Here are two examples using minimalist composition that might spark some inspiration.
