Suwon, South Korea to Host K-Pop Super Concert in June

Suwon, South Korea, May 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- To celebrate the "2016 Suwon Hwaseong Visit Year" (2016 Visit Suwon Hwaseong Year), the event organizers said on Monday that a major K-pop (Korean pop) concert will be held next month in Suwon, a city located south of Seoul.

The Suwon K-pop Super Concert will take place from June 17-18 at the Suwon World Cup Stadium under the theme "Love & Love," expressing love for neighboring countries, the city of Suwon, and Korean culture. A lineup of famous idols will perform, and the event also marks the 220th anniversary of the construction of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, a key city stronghold, reflecting Suwon's ambition to establish itself as a leading tourism destination.

The concert on June 17 will be a preview, featuring electrifying electronic dance music paired with 3D laser performances. Ailee, U-KISS, LABOUM, Seventeen, Gfriend, and TWICE will take the stage for spectacular performances.

June 18 will feature the main part of the concert, where top idol groups EXO, MAMAMOO, UP10TION, and SS301 will perform one after another.

During the main concert, the stage design will showcase the grandeur of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. Including the seats in the stadium plaza, the concert will have a total of 28,800 seats spread across three levels.

Suwon City stated that it has attracted 3,500 tourists from Asian countries such as Japan, China, Singapore, and Malaysia through local travel agencies and other channels to attend this super concert. Ticket proceeds will be donated to the Gyeonggi-do branch of the Community Chest of Korea.

A variety of activities will be held around the concert venue to showcase the city’s history and culture, including a "History Zone" introducing all major events of the "2016 Suwon Hwaseong Visit Year," a "Stage Zone" featuring autograph sessions with top idol groups and performances by indie bands and street dancers, a "Photo Zone" where fans can take pictures with actors and actresses from popular Korean dramas known both domestically and abroad, and a "Korean Food Zone" where visitors can sample famous Korean dishes.
