Last year, the leaning postbox—knocked askew by a falling signboard during Typhoon Soudelor—aroused nostalgic memories of the postal service among many Taiwanese. As times progress, sending letters is no longer part of everyday life. Yet rather than disappearing, post offices have evolved with the times, creating local characteristics and attracting visitors eager to take photos and check in. 1. Pingtung Fangshan Post Office
The Fangshan Post Office, newly unveiled in October this year, features an oversized convenience box exterior with 3D colorful murals on its walls, which attracted large crowds right after opening. The exterior renovation of Fangshan Post Office is the first in Taiwan to combine green energy and art and culture design, integrating ecological conservation into its look. The roof is installed with solar panels, and at every hour, a green energy light show featuring the opening and closing of panels takes place—it’s quite eye-catching.

2. Alishan Post Office
Nestled within Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, Alishan Post Office stands at an elevation of 2,274 meters, making it the highest-altitude post office in Taiwan. With a palace-style appearance, it exudes a strong retro vibe. The design of the post office incorporates local iconic features such as sea of clouds, cherry blossoms, and sacred trees—for example, two large stamps shaped like old-fashioned steam trains are hung on the outer wall, blending nostalgia with a modern touch.

3. Kaohsiung Jiaxian Post Office
To promote local tourism, residents and schools in Jiaxian District, Kaohsiung, jointly created a cat-themed mural project in the alleys, turning it into the famous “Cat Alley.” Even more, at the end of August 2016, an “orange cat mail carrier”-shaped postbox was introduced for public use. The designer of the postbox, Hong e? Chao, said he found inspiration when he noticed a stray cat lingering in a narrow alley.

4. Nantou Zhongxing Post Office
Located in Zhongxing New Village, Nantou, Zhongxing Post Office created a giant lantern wall featuring over 300 stamp designs for the 2014 Taiwan Lantern Festival. After the festival ended, the lantern wall continued to shine locally. Not only can visitors admire beautiful stamps from different years of the Republic of China, but they can also take photos with the “stamp wall lantern” for social media—making it a new tourist attraction in Nantou.

5. Taitung Duoliang Station
Dubbed Taiwan’s most beautiful train station, Duoliang Station boasts limitless Pacific Ocean views on one side and nestles against the mountains on the other. Though it's not a post office,Taiwan Post’s Taitung Operations Office has specially installed a mailbox at the station entrance so visitors can turn their heartfelt emotions into words and share them with loved ones via postcards.
