The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum Opens Widely: Starting November 15, Chiayi Residents Can Enter Free with ID

Located in Taibao City, Chiayi County, near the Chiayi High-Speed Rail Station and the Suan Tou Sugar Refinery, the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum has, after long-term advocacy by the Chiayi County Government and Chiayi County Council, had its trial free admission program for “Chiayi County and City” residents unveiled by the National Palace Museum on the 11th. Starting November 15 this year, Chiayi residents can enjoy free entry to the museum by presenting valid ID.

The free admission program at the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum is expected to be implemented starting November 15 this year and will run until August 31, 2017. The free entry period is daily from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. County Magistrate Chang Hua-kuan specifically reminded the public to bring their ID when visiting to avoid disappointment.

Chang Hua-kuan stated that it is only reasonable for the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum to give back to local residents. During the previous Ma administration, the Chiayi County Government had actively sought this benefit multiple times but was not granted approval. Now, under the new government, the county government’s renewed efforts have finally received a positive response. The release of this free admission trial program today can be said to meet the long-held expectations of the people in the Chiayi area.

Chang Hua-kuan said that the trial free admission program for Chiayi residents at the Southern Branch of the Palace Museum can be considered a long-awaited gift. Though not perfect, the effort to show consideration for Chiayi residents is worthy of recognition.

According to information published on the official website of the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum: the Museum Area is open from 09:00 to 17:00 (closed every Monday). The Park is open from 08:00 to 21:00 (closed every Monday). The museum also stated that to maintain the quality of the visit, all individual and group visitors must book their entry time online in advance and pick up tickets at the ticket office upon arrival.
