In August 2016, the International Olympic Committee Executive Board (IOC Executive Board) officially announced that five sports, including sport climbing, would be added to the official program of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This decision fills a century-long gap in the Olympic family by introducing a climbing discipline, and also means that we will witness exciting sport climbing events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Interestingly, although the rock climbing enthusiasts interviewed by ZAKER unanimously agreed that once you understand the basic rules, rock climbing is actually a very safe sport, most members of the general public still express cautious optimism about climbing becoming an Olympic sport, often viewing it as too dangerous and keeping their distance. ZAKER will continue to follow the Olympic journey of the national rock climbing team alongside them, providing insights into the future development of the sport.
