With the concept of returning to nature gradually gaining popularity, more and more people are taking part in outdoor activities such as hiking, trail running, and mountaineering. In recent years, there have been numerous outdoor accidents, including some involving experienced outdoor enthusiasts, drawing public attention to the work of rescue teams. For local rescue teams, the limited number of members makes it difficult to conduct rapid and accurate search and rescue operations every time. In fact, the key to outdoor rescue lies in communication — the lack of stable communication equipment can severely hinder rescue progress.
The BeiDou Box team identified the aforementioned issues early on and actively explored solutions for outdoor communication from the very beginning of product development. Starting March 1st of this year, the BeiDou Box team launched the first phase of a public welfare rescue application campaign, donating “BeiDou Boxes” free of charge to rescue squads across the country. It is reported that the BeiDou Box is a civilian communication terminal developed based on China’s BeiDou Satellite Navigation System, capable of sending and receiving BeiDou short messages anywhere within China, ensuring connection with the outside world even in areas without mobile phone signals.

The public welfare rescue application campaign actively responds to the call of relevant management departments for “caring for life,” aiming to better equip rescue teams, enhance the speed and effectiveness of rescue efforts, and effectively ensure the safety of the public during outdoor activities. The BeiDou Box team stated that in the future, they will be committed to building a more comprehensive outdoor safety network by connecting rescue squads nationwide through the BeiDou Box system.
Under the coverage of the outdoor safety network, outdoor enthusiasts only need to carry a BeiDou Box. Not only can they easily communicate with the outside world via satellite short messages, but in times of crisis, simply pressing the SOS button on the BeiDou Box will display their distress signal on the system map, allowing nearby rescue teams to receive it immediately and initiate rescue operations. To make it more user-friendly, the BeiDou Box also offers a rental service at a price of up to 30 yuan per day. Compared to satellite phones priced at five to six thousand yuan, renting a BeiDou Box is a more flexible and affordable option.
