In the heart of Western Hunan lies an ancient and mysterious village, perched atop a mountain peak. The gentle and wise You River flows by, while towering peaks surround a forest of striking red stone pillars. These peculiar red rocks are truly magical, changing color with the weather—from crimson in sunshine to brownish hues in rain. Thus, the divine village earned its name: Red Stone Forest. On September 29, 2016, the divine village of Red Stone Forest welcomed a group of otherworldly deities. They were six godfathers with unique superpowers and seven little godkids:
The mysterious history of Western Hunan dates back over 2,000 years, but in truth, its stories go far beyond that. The underwater world of 500 million years ago, shaped by wind and water erosion, transformed into the breathtaking Red Stone Forest we see today. The immensely powerful godfathers came in search of a long-lost mystical treasure. Wading through waters and aided by the godkids, they overcame challenges one after another, encountering wonders along the way. Adventure 1 · The Enchanted Musical The villagers of Red Stone Forest are of the Tujia ethnic group, known for their love of song and dance. They speak an ancient and unique language—Tujia—and have their own traditional songs. The most widely spread and famous is a catchy, simple-rhythm viral hit called the "Niania Song." However, this song has a mind-controlling effect on adults from outside the tribe—even the godfathers aren’t immune—yet the godkids remain completely unaffected. △ Dad, Where Are We Going? Season 4 behind-the-scenes still As the unfamiliar godkids wander aimlessly through the Red Stone Forest, a strange group appears. They wear straw-cloaked garments and sport wild, upstanding braids made of straw, resembling the pointed hats of wizards. △ Dad, Where Are We Going? Season 4 behind-the-scenes still Yes, because they are the Tujia ethnic group’s “wizards” who dance—they perform the primal Maogus dance for the godkids. △ Dad, Where Are We Going? Season 4 behind-the-scenes still Adventure 3 · The Prehistoric Divine Mission Immersed in the mysterious Maogus dance, a divine beam of light strikes the red stone under the Ordovician seabed. A hoarse voice echoes from the sky: “I heard that gathering all seven godkids can summon a dragon!” A time portal opens before the Ordovician seabed, and the godkids step through into a prehistoric world, as the portal slowly closes behind them. When dinosaurs appear before the godkids, their adorable expressions lend a touch of gentleness to the prehistoric giants, far from the ferocity and savagery one might expect. △ Dad, Where Are We Going? Season 4 behind-the-scenes still They tell the godkids that to dispel the mind-control magic of the "Nia Nia Song," they must find the God of Fire Lanterns in front of the Heavenly Lake in the Red Stone Forest. The God of Fire Lanterns only appears at night, so they must find it before dawn. With the dinosaurs’ help, the godkids find fossils in the Red Stone Forest. Touching the fossils opens a time portal, and they return once again to the real world. △ Dad, Where Are We Going? Season 4 behind-the-scenes still Adventure 4 · The God of Fire Lanterns In the village of Red Stone Forest shrouded in darkness, only the sky above the Heavenly Lake glows a brilliant red. The godkids, having returned through time, follow the light and bring the godfathers to the Heavenly Lake. The illuminated sky turned out to be a bonfire celebration by the Tujia people. The Tujia warmly invited the "God Kids" and "God Dads" to join in, telling them that only by doing so could they find the God of Fire Lanterns. △ Behind-the-scenes stills from Dad, Where Are We Going? Colorful divine mud descended upon the red stone forest, and the mud that landed on the God Dads transformed into fireflies, carrying away the mind-controlling magic.
