Life is a journey of seeking challenges. From wilderness to civilization is the growth process of humans discovering and conquering nature; from civilization back to wilderness is the challenging journey of humans returning to nature to find their true selves. Physical hardship is meant to awaken the primal power within us that merges with nature; braving wind, rain, and overcoming dangers purifies our souls and enhances our abilities.

Shanghai Nütu Outdoor takes you to experience the challenge of the first “Via Ferrata” in Xiangshan.

A journey of seeking challenges is surely one that adjusts body and mind, cleanses the soul, reinterprets the meaning of life, and leads to a more profound understanding of so-called faith, purity, and the essential joys of life.

“Via Ferrata” is the transliteration of an Italian term, meaning “iron path” in Chinese. It refers to climbing routes built on mountain faces, consisting of iron railings, fixed cables, rock anchors, footholds, and other elements, enabling climbers without rock-climbing skills to scale steep cliffs. It is now very popular in Europe and has gradually become a beloved outdoor adventure sport, but it is still in its early stages in China.

During World War I, Italian soldiers built climbing routes with iron railings, fixed cables, rock anchors, and footholds on mountainsides to quickly scale the Dolomite Mountains, allowing non-climbers to ascend steep cliffs. This climbing method later evolved into a new outdoor sport. Rock climbing that anyone can do — this is Via Ferrata.

When it comes to the outdoor activity of Via Ferrata, many people may feel unfamiliar because this activity was introduced to China only in recent years. Currently, there are only a few places in China where you can experience Via Ferrata. In the season of spring growth and summer flourishing, the first organization in East China to offer organized Via Ferrata activities — Shanghai Nütu Outdoor Club — takes you walking on cliffs and precipices, feeling like a “Spider-Man” and enjoying a unique outdoor experience.

Located in Xiangshan Bay, Ningbo, the base covers an area of over 50 acres. Construction began in 2016, and trial operations started on May 1, 2017. This is the first “Via Ferrata” route in East China, stretching over 300 meters. With majestic mountain terrain, steep cliffs, and lush forests, the area features rugged rocks at the base due to past seawater erosion... Nütu Outdoor takes you to experience the thrilling adventure of cliff climbing.
