Three global technical elites from Ariston traveled to the Arctic to build a warm and comfortable space for a global climate research team on Greenland, creating more possibilities for scientific study. The documentary *Ariston Comfort Extreme Challenge: The Greenland Mission* chronicles this extraordinary endeavor. Since its release on September 4th, it has garnered significant attention from both the media and audiences.

Greenland is a key scientific research base for studying global climate change. Climate change research, one of the most important topics of this century, concerns the future of us all. In the frigid and desolate expanse of Greenland, comfort and warmth are the greatest desires of the scientists stationed there. Guided by its brand philosophy and mission—"comfort for everyone, comfort for every possibility"—the Ariston Comfort Extreme Challenge aimed to bring "comfort" to the scientists in Greenland. However, under the harsh cold and extreme conditions of the Arctic, fulfilling this mission posed unprecedented difficulties and unparalleled challenges for the three Ariston technical experts.

A strenuous journey fraught with unexpected challenges

Greenland, located north of the Arctic Circle, presented the first major hurdle for the Ariston expert team: transporting the equipment needed to build the comfortable space there. This required the use of various modes of transportation.

On the first day of the challenge, the Arctic Ocean’s ice floes gave the team a formidable challenge. Satellite data revealed a situation unseen in fifteen years—solid ice blocked the final stretch to their destination. The construction materials had to be transported via an icebreaker through a narrow route of drifting ice, the only viable means to reach an area surrounded by fierce storms and sea ice.

The three experts first traveled by plane and then by boat to reach their destination. Encountering numerous ice floes, the situation turned critical, forcing them to turn back to avoid being trapped by the icy seas. But the challenge did not end there—the experts then switched to a helicopter to proceed. However, when the team members were waiting at the port for the icebreaker, they discovered that four crucial parts were missing. To save time, they proceeded with the basic setup while awaiting the arrival of the missing components.

With the help of local Greenlanders, the four boxes of replacement parts were delivered via snow trucks and snowmobiles to the returning icebreaker, forging ahead through the vast, endless ice fields. Unfortunately, one snowmobile overturned into an ice crevice but was eventually pulled out with the help of locals and successfully loaded onto the icebreaker to continue the journey.

Huang Yuanshuo (Andy), the Chinese challenge hero, upon receiving news that the four items were about to arrive, increased manpower to accelerate construction while asking his teammates Oleg   and William to greet the crucial four boxes of parts with a legendary polar transport method—dog sledding. In the cold Arctic night, Andy waited for his companions’ return. As the polar region plunged into complete darkness and snow covered all traces of humans and animals, worried that they might get lost, Andy had to guide them by waving signal flares in the vast snowy expanse. The bright red smoke stood out vividly against the surroundings, while the sight of the sled dogs racing toward him added an element of thrill to the scene. The moment the three reunited was incredibly moving—no matter how harsh the journey, it could not dampen their determination to complete the challenge.

A harsh environment and scarce resources

Before embarking on the challenge, the three Ariston technical experts gathered at the University of Copenhagen’s Permafrost Research Center to discuss how to achieve heating under special conditions and what modifications needed to be made to the wall-mounted boilers. However, no amount of preparation could anticipate the challenges that lay ahead.

They faced not only temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees but also frequent blizzards that tested their patience. During the construction of the comfortable space, the team endured two blizzard attacks, with newly laid rooftops being instantly buried. Yet, they refused to give up and ultimately succeeded in building this cabin amidst the blizzards.

Moreover, Greenland’s unique environment posed a significant test to the technology and performance of Ariston’s products. Due to the scarcity of water, electricity, and natural gas on the island,   the products were required to be highly energy-efficient and low-consumption. Additionally, the sub-zero temperatures as low as minus 50°C necessitated the use of special parts such as chimneys, antifreeze agents, radiators, and windproof devices. The island only had access to liquefied petroleum gas canisters, presenting an immense challenge to their professional skills, a rigorous test of teamwork, and a breakthrough in courage and determination. Through the combined efforts of the three technical experts, the Ariston condensing wall-mounted boiler ALTEAS   ONE finally brought warmth to this polar cabin.

A distant edge of the world: longing and friendship

When the challenge concluded, the three experts shared their thoughts:

Chinese hero Huang Yuanshuo (Andy): “In Greenland, I learned what it means to cherish.” His father’s parting words before departure felt like just yesterday.

Russian hero Oleg Belyy: “I just want to go home. I miss my wife and my family.”

Italian hero William Randaccio: “I’m back, but a part of me will always remain there.” While in the Arctic, his wife wrote him over a dozen letters expressing her longing.

In a place as remote and isolated as the Arctic, one can feel profound loneliness and longing. People from different corners of the world come together here, breaking language and cultural barriers to collaborate, support, and comfort one another, forming precious friendships. The people at the research station come and go, one generation replacing another,   but what remains most are the laughter of reunions, the warmth of togetherness, and the passing on of each researcher’s resilience. The three Ariston technical experts from China, Russia, and Italy not only worked together to complete the challenge but also supported one another, transcending language and culture. On days ravaged by blizzards, they spent time together not only discussing construction work but also playing chess, learning Italian, playing table tennis, and even cooking meals for the research station staff. William also celebrated an unforgettable birthday in the Arctic. As he said, he found a second family here.

Of course, they also left the scientists in the Arctic a home-like, comfortable house.

Bringing comfort to the most unlikely places, allowing these admirable scientists to have a cozy living space for their research—the hardships behind this are vividly portrayed in this remarkable documentary, making you feel as if you’ve been to that cold yet heartwarming Arctic alongside them.
