Traditional villages are living cultural heritage sites, living entities of human civilization’s inheritance and development. They carry the historical memories, artistic and cultural achievements, and regional characteristics of various ethnic groups, embodying rich wisdom about the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, and among people. They hold significant importance for both contemporary and future human development. However, with the rapid advancement of industrialization and urbanization, a large number of traditional villages have gradually disappeared. Protecting and developing traditional villages is a challenge facing today's society. Since 2012, the Chinese government has initiated the conservation of traditional villages, achieving preliminary results. To further advance the conservation and development of traditional villages, exchange international experiences, build consensus, strengthen cooperation, and promote the inheritance and development of outstanding traditional culture within modernization, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the People's Government of Fujian Province will jointly host the first "International Conference on the Conservation and Development of Traditional Villages" in mid-to-late October 2017 in Xiamen, Fujian Province.
