The summer vacation is more than halfway through, and this year’s unexpected persistent heatwave has made many hesitant about traveling. Two types of destinations have stood out as popular choices for family-friendly summer getaways. One is indoor amusement parks and museums — crowded, yes, but at least they have air conditioning. The other is mountainous areas on the outskirts of cities, offering natural air-conditioning, an abundance of negative ions, a chance to connect with nature, and a break from electronic devices. Against this backdrop, BaiShi Mountain Scenic Area, just a three-hour drive from Beijing, has become a top parent-child summer retreat this year thanks to its naturally cool 21°C climate, relaxing walking trails, luxury mountain cabins, stunning cliffside cafes, and thrilling glass skywalks.
