On March 6, 2018, the Wilderness Leaders Pioneer Training Camp jointly launched by HowToTrip’s Wild Travel Community and Wilderness Exploration School officially commenced. A nine-day program was tailored specifically for wilderness team leaders, covering courses such as AHA, LNT, leadership skills, and foundational coaching techniques for outdoor enthusiasts...

The wilderness team leaders arrived at Yilin Farm in Putian, Fujian, to check in and begin their nine-day fully enclosed training. The entire program was divided into nine modules: Planning and Preparation, Safety and Health, Food and Rations, Equipment and Techniques, Navigation and Orienteering, Environment and Conservation, Organization and Management, and Wilderness First Aid. Through these training modules, we aim for both wilderness team leaders and outdoor enthusiasts to acquire comprehensive planning and execution capabilities for various outdoor activities or informal events, as well as the ability to safely complete integrated outdoor adventures.
By the end of the course, both students and instructors shared the same sentiment: tired but happy.

Mu Tou — This training provided systematic instruction on risk management, environmental knowledge, team management, and event organization, leading to a noticeable improvement in the leadership and organizational abilities of the team leaders. It is worth highlighting that the teaching skills of all participants were enhanced, equipping them with the basic ability to impart outdoor knowledge to fellow enthusiasts, thereby laying a solid foundation for the future implementation of the HowToTrip Wilderness Academy’s enthusiast training system.
Student Afei — HowToTrip’s Wild Travel Community has always placed great emphasis on the cultivation of team leaders and the building of a professional team. This Wilderness Leaders Pioneer Training Camp is a bold attempt in collaboration with Wilderness Exploration School. From the early-stage curriculum planning and site selection preparations to the hard work of the teaching team during the training period and the active engagement of the students, all reflect the professional quality of the Wilderness Exploration School’s instructors and the support and attention from the leadership of the Wild Travel Community.
Student Yuesheng — Upon arriving at the Wilderness Leaders Pioneer Training Camp, what I first felt was the warmth and professionalism of the teaching team. Over the course of the seven-day program, I earned the LNT Level 1 Instructor Certificate, AHA First Aid Certificate, and Introductory Outdoor Enthusiast Training Certificate, greatly enhancing my outdoor knowledge. The instructors organized numerous sharing sessions during the field courses, which improved my communication skills and laid a solid foundation for future regional work. Through this learning experience, I was exposed to a wealth of new knowledge and am very much looking forward to the next training session.
Student Sun Peng — Learning about environmental protection through hands-on practice in the wild gave me a deep understanding of the seven principles of LNT (Leave No Trace). Studying the HowToTrip Wilderness Academy’s outdoor enthusiast training system will enable more enthusiasts to participate in outdoor sports safely, scientifically, civilly, and in an environmentally friendly way, while enjoying the fun that outdoor activities bring. First aid skills are essential for team leaders. By studying pre-hospital emergency care knowledge directly from AHA (American Heart Association) materials, I strengthened my core technical abilities. In the future, HowToTrip’s Wild Travel Community will join hands with the Wilderness Academy to spread outdoor knowledge and promote an outdoor lifestyle with even greater professionalism.
Beyond the enhancement of professional skills, the greatest takeaway for the participants in this training was the shift in mindset and personal philosophy. The outdoor ethos of “Science, Safety, and Environmental Protection” has taken root in everyone’s hearts. It is especially important—and something every participant should reflect on and put into practice—how to translate the slogans and ideals often heard among outdoor enthusiasts into concrete actions in daily life. Each certificate awarded at the graduation ceremony filled the participants with pride. Everyone understands that graduation is not an end, but just the beginning. Each additional certificate signifies an added responsibility on their shoulders. The journey ahead for the wilderness team leaders is long and full of meaning.
