The annual Huaguoshan Tent Festival is about to begin again this year. The first part of this edition of the Huaguoshan Tent Festival will be held on August 4th, with registration officially opening to the public on July 13th. The 11th Huaguoshan Scenic Area Tent Festival and Outdoor Carnival 2018 will be divided into four chapters: Chapter One – Youthful Energy, from August 4th to 5th; Chapter Two – Lovers’ Qixi, from August 17th to 19th; Chapter Three – Outdoor Carnival, from September 14th to 16th; and Chapter Four – National Day Camping Carnival, from October 1st to 7th. A variety of colorful activities will take place in rotation at the Guanyindang Outdoor Campsite in Huaguoshan. At that time, outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world will gather in Huaguoshan to share in this globally renowned tent festival.
According to the organizing committee, in addition to highlighting the three major elements of “music, live streaming, and camping,” this year’s tent festival has added even more new content. After an extraordinary ten-year journey, the Huaguoshan Tent Festival has now formed a unique outdoor culture. It not only combines with local traditional culture to create a new regional culture full of contemporary flair, but has also become a well-known brand in China’s outdoor sports community, bearing a distinct regional identity.
To incorporate fashionable pop music elements, this year the Huaguoshan Scenic Area has joined forces with Jiangxi’s Strongest Voice in Colleges to launch the Huaguoshan Campus Singers Competition, where contestants will perform live during the first chapter of the event. Other musical activities include a Qixi Rock-Hip-Hop-Love Songs Night theme party and the “2018, We’re Different” Rock Music Concert, attracting more young people to experience the musical magic of Huaguoshan. Traditional events such as climbing Golden Summit, watching the sunrise, bonfire parties, and team weight-carrying hiking competitions have been retained, along with fun outdoor mini-games like basketball hoops, teamwork rowing, and moon-surrounded-by-stars, ensuring campers' lives remain exciting.
Unlike previous editions, this year’s tent festival has reached new heights with the addition of more profound and influential content. The China Outdoor Sports Development Summit Forum will invite domestic and international outdoor experts, scholars, representatives from tourism industry-related enterprises, and outdoor celebrities to gather in Huaguoshan to discuss plans for the future development of the outdoor industry, explore the direction of outdoor industry growth, and share forward-looking industry insights. This ensures the tent festival offers not only rich entertainment value, but also serious academic significance, truly contributing significantly to the development of the outdoor industry. The “Jiangxi vs. Seoul Go Match” will be another major cross-industry highlight of the Huaguoshan Tent Festival, with all major domestic Go websites broadcasting the matches live, and CCTV-5 also covering the event.
This year’s tent festival will incorporate TikTok, one of today’s most popular short-video apps, by hosting a TikTok Challenge. This not only enhances entertainment value and extends the reach of the event, but also diversifies its participants—no longer limited to outdoor enthusiasts, but attracting a wider audience including youths and families—helping to promote outdoor camping culture to an even broader field.
This edition of the Huaguoshan Tent Festival will still adopt a phased registration format. Registration for the Lovers’ Qixi chapter runs from August 5th to 16th, 2018, while the Outdoor Carnival chapter is open for registration from August 20th to September 14th. Jiangxi Huaguoshan—the Huaguoshan Scenic Area—is a large-scale mountainous scenic spot in western Jiangxi Province with the richest tourism resources. During the Ming Dynasty, Xu Xiake left behind the timeless verse: “A thousand peaks rise proudly like emerald hairpins, the Five Ridges pale before Huaguoshan.
