Xishuangbanna, August 8, 2018 — Pioneers blaze new trails, the determined press forward, explorers respect nature, and the conquerors never tire of the challenge. Together, they tread on the limits of the earth and take in the most breathtaking views. On August 6, the 2018 “Chevrolet Most Beautiful China Journey — Search for the Beauty of Extremes” expedition to China’s wettest regions officially launched in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. As an outstanding original equipment supplier to Chevrolet and the official sole tire partner of this event, GITI Tires joined forces throughout to ensure smooth progress. Over four days, the convoy traveled approximately 1,200 kilometers within Yunnan Province. GITI and Chevrolet shared the spirit of exploration as they traversed the southernmost part of Yunnan — China’s wettest region — challenging the limits of GITI’s all-terrain tire series in wetland conditions.

The beautiful province of Yunnan, located in China’s southwestern frontier, is renowned nationwide for its magical tropical rainforest climate, vibrant ethnic minority culture, and rich biodiversity. Its complex and ever-changing topography and frequent rainfall made this journey into the wettest regions full of surprises and thrills, serving as a rigorous test for both vehicle handling and GITI tires’ performance in wet conditions. Yunnan has only two seasons a year: rainy and dry. The rainy season typically runs from late April to October. Unlike the prolonged overcast, cold, and damp conditions often seen during the rainy season in southern China, Yunnan's rainy season coincides with rising temperatures. Daytime heat can soar to nearly 40°C, often interrupted by sudden torrential downpours, creating a cycle of scorching sun and heavy rain. Due to its high temperatures and frequent summer storms, Yunnan is also dubbed “China’s most powerful humidifier.”

Rainy weather is also a peak period for traffic accidents. Driving in the rain reduces driver visibility, decreases tire traction with the road surface, and congested roads can lead to driver frustration — all of which increase the risk of accidents. In Yunnan’s hot and humid rainy season, vehicles and tires face even greater challenges. Tires must not only deliver excellent drainage, braking, and handling performance but also withstand the effects of high temperatures on rubber compounds, directly impacting driver safety.

During this event, all vehicles were equipped with GITI All-Terrain HT152 and GITI All-Terrain AT100 tires. Departing from Xishuangbanna, the convoy traveled eastward through Mojiang and Mengzi before reaching Puzhehei, covering a total distance of approximately 1,200 kilometers. The unique climate and geographical environment of Yunnan added extra challenges to the “wettest regions” exploration. As the official tire partner of Chevrolet’s 2018 Most Beautiful China Journey, GITI Tires supported the event with its premium all-terrain tire series, taking on the wetland challenge head-on. Whether facing sudden downpours in Xishuangbanna, muddy and humid tropical rainforests, or the complex road conditions in Mojiang and Puzhehei, the GITI all-terrain tire series delivered outstanding performance, earning unanimous praise from all professional participants.

Among them, the GITI All-Terrain HT152 is designed for cross-terrain driving in both urban and suburban environments, excelling especially in wetland performance. The HT152 features a wider tread design to enhance grip on wet roads, ensuring confident handling even during the rainy season. Functional resin and high-dispersion silica formulas improve wet-skid resistance, helping to shorten braking distances on wet surfaces and enhance driving safety. Additionally, its unique 3mm scuff guard and two layers of high-strength carcass cords reinforce tire strength, effectively reducing sidewall damage and enabling it to handle harsh gravel road conditions encountered when driving through Yunnan’s rainforests.
Meanwhile, the GITI All-Terrain AT100 is an all-terrain tire developed for off-road vehicles and SUVs. The AT100’s lug-and-sipe design, featuring a directional pattern and trumpet-shaped main grooves, provides strong drainage while breaking the water film to increase rubber contact with the road. This enhances water-clearing capability, delivering better traction even on flooded roads during torrential rains. When driving through puddles, the AT100 maintains solid grip and responsive handling. Furthermore, its wide and interconnected drainage grooves function like an advanced drainage system, ensuring firm tire contact whether driving through mud or gravel. These grooves also offer excellent self-cleaning properties, preventing embedded stones from compromising grip.
