Price cuts at every station!

In the first half of this year, Taoyuan Metro posted a surplus of nearly NT$200 million, with MRT ridership reaching 62,000 passengers per month. On the 16th, Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan also announced in his city council policy report that fares on the Taoyuan Airport MRT will be reduced across the board. The first phase will see a reduction of at least NT$10 or more per station, with implementation expected to begin on October 1.

Since its launch in March last year, the Taoyuan Airport MRT has not only maintained solid finances—surpassing NT$100 million in surplus last year—but its operations have also continued to improve this year, having achieved the goal of “system stability and safety assurance.” This year’s primary milestones are “increasing ridership, optimizing services, and maintaining financial stability.”

To reduce the burden on local residents and travelers along the line, Taoyuan Metro has introduced several programs this year, including an 80% discount for riders using citizen cards, preferential access for senior citizen cardholders with 800 points, transfer discounts between buses and the MRT, as well as a 50% discount on 120-day passes. Currently, to further boost MRT ridership, a two-phase discount model is being developed to explore fare reductions at all stations.

The first phase of the MRT fare cuts will introduce price reductions across all stations, with the exact amounts still under calculation, but each station will see at least a NT$10 reduction or more. The second phase is being studied to align with the Taipei Metro pricing system, integrating fares with those of the Taipei Metro. This will benefit not only passengers along the Taoyuan Airport MRT line but also riders from Taipei and New Taipei City.
