There are two three-star restaurants in total—besides Tang Court, ULTRAVIOLET has been upgraded from two to three stars this year. The list of two-star restaurants remains unchanged apart from ULTRAVIOLET’s promotion, while four new restaurants have earned one star. Meanwhile, Laobanbei under the Ganbei Group and HeyMaMa by Jean-Georges under the Shin Yeh Group have both retained their Michelin one-star status.

The 2018 Michelin Guide for Shanghai was announced on the morning of September 20. There were two three-star restaurants in total. In addition to Tang Court, ULTRAVIOLET was upgraded from two stars to three stars. Among the two-star restaurants, apart from ULTRAVIOLET moving up, the rest of the list remained unchanged. The one-star list saw an increase of four restaurants. Both Ganbei Group’s Old Ganbei in Shanghai and Goose Lady under the Din Tai Fung Group retained their Michelin one-star status.

The overall 2018 Michelin Guide for Shanghai saw little change compared to last year. Aside from ULTRAVIOLET being upgraded from two to three stars, there were also four new one-star restaurants: Jean-Georges, Bo Shanghai, Da Shu Wu Jie, and Yong Fu. Among them, Jean-Georges is the Shanghai branch of New York’s three-star Michelin restaurant of the same name, which surprised many when it was not selected in last year’s guide, but this year earned a star. Bo Shanghai is the sister restaurant in Shanghai opened by Hong Kong’s three-star Michelin chef Leung King Lun of Bo Innovation, and it only opened last October.
