Major earthquake of magnitude 6.1 hits Osaka, JR services suspended, transportation and flights affected – travel advisory

Areas around Osaka, including Kyoto, Hyogo, and Shiga, also felt tremors of magnitude 5. Many travelers in Osaka reported back being safe while describing the quake as terrifying — so strong that they could barely stand, with intense shaking.
Due to the earthquake, JR services in Osaka have been suspended; 170,000 households are without power and 100,000 without gas. Several flights have also been canceled. There are additional concerns about potential major aftershocks and unstable ground conditions. Travelers currently in Osaka or planning to visit should stay updated on local conditions and flight operations.
