Hand-grabbed seafood, ultra-bold style—the popular Malaysian eatery SHELLOUT makes its Taiwan debut

The popular Malaysian hand-grabbed seafood restaurant “Shell Out,” originating from Kuala Lumpur, pioneered the concept of eating seafood by hand and putting away phones to focus on dining, sparking a new food trend. Its first overseas branch has opened at Taipei’s Xinyi ATT Department Store, offering diners a unique dining experience.

SHELL OUT’s founders believe that the bold and passionate style of hand-grabbed seafood is a fascinating process. A variety of abundant seafood is served on the table, allowing diners to feel the warmth with their hands. They can grab lobsters, crab legs, and more, all coated with Malaysia’s signature sauce flavors, which have amazed many seafood lovers.

The restaurant has developed five different sauces, including lemon pepper, butter garlic, black pepper, curry flavor, as well as a signature lemon pepper mixed with butter garlic sauce. The rich seafood pairs perfectly with these unique sauces, and there are also milder sauces designed for shrimp and scallops.

As soon as you walk into the store, you’ll see eye-catching neon lights in the shape of fish and shrimp on the walls, bubble lights with ocean motifs hanging from the ceiling, and maritime elements like fishing nets, hemp ropes, and nautical tools scattered throughout, creating a strong harbor atmosphere. Additionally, there are conveniently placed sinks nearby for diners to wash up at any time.
