There’s even a dreamy Ferris wheel coming soon—Taichung’s Christmas Carnival will light up on December 9th in a grand ceremony.

The romantic Christmas season is just around the corner. The Taichung City Government’s Christmas Carnival will kick off with a magical lighting ceremony at 7:00 PM on December 9th at the Civic Plaza. The event will feature an 18-meter-tall, elaborately decorated Christmas tree, a 2-meter-tall eco-friendly snowman, as well as a variety of amusement rides to ensure visitors have a blast and enjoy a romantic Christmas night.

The plaza will host an 18-meter-tall Christmas tree, along with amusement rides such as coffee cup rides, carousels, spinning pirate ships, hot air balloons, and mini trains. This year, there’s also a new addition: a “Ferris wheel.” In addition, gingerbread houses, large-scale cute mascot installations, themed lighting decorations, and LEGO experience zones are all highly photogenic. The “Four Treasures of Taichung”—a large installation art piece featuring the Formosan black bear, pangolin, leopard cat, and Taiwanese white dolphin—in front of the Christmas tree, as well as the 2-meter-tall “eco-friendly snowman” family, have become major highlights.

Director Zhuo of the Information Bureau stated that last year’s Christmas Carnival combined the atmosphere of an amusement park and was very popular with both children and adults. Therefore, this year the event has been expanded—with more amusement rides, extended operating hours, and performances by artists such as Jia Jia and Wei Ruyun, who will sing together with the public in front of the plaza to celebrate Christmas.
