As everyone knows, you generally can't bring liquids over 100 ml, dangerous fireworks, or brass knuckles on a plane. On March 31, the U.S. Huffington Post, based on regulations from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), compiled a list of 11 surprising but permitted items you can carry on board. Of course, travelers should double-check before departure, as regulations may change.

1. Antlers

Surprised? Most U.S. airlines allow antlers on board, since most passengers aren’t hunters. Travelers carrying antlers are usually asked to pay a fee ranging from $20 to $200 (approximately 124 to 1240 RMB) and to clean and pack them properly.

2. Canoes and Bicycles

Sports equipment such as canoes, bicycles, skis, and surfboards are permitted by many airlines. However, passengers should check with their airline in advance, as not all companies allow this, and you may be required to disassemble items like bicycles for packing.

3. Lighters

Airlines have strict rules regarding lighters containing liquids. But there’s no limit to how many non-liquid lighters you can bring.

4. Fishing Rods

The TSA allows passengers to check in or carry fishing rods on board, but different airlines have varying policies. So before hauling your fishing gear to the airport, make sure to confirm the details.

5. Ashes

According to regulations, ashes are allowed either as checked or carry-on luggage. Some airlines, however, do not permit ashes to be checked. If you’re bringing ashes on board, ensure they are stored in a wooden, cardboard, or plastic container, as metal containers are not allowed through security.

6. Parachutes

Passengers can carry parachutes either as carry-on or checked baggage, but they must be packed properly. For safety reasons, security personnel may ask you a series of questions if you’re carrying a parachute, so arrive at the airport at least an hour early.

7. Cakes and Pies

Yes, you and your cake or pie can go through security together, but the food may require additional screening.

8. Skates and Rollerblades

That’s right, skates and rollerblades are compliant with safety regulations. So if you’re heading to Canada or Florida, it’s time to get ready.

9. Wrenches, Vises, and Screwdrivers

As long as your tools are no longer than 18 cm, you can check them in or carry them on board.

10. Knitting Needles

Passengers can bring knitting needles, but if they come with blades, those must be checked in.

11. Wrapped Gifts

There’s no problem with bringing wrapped gifts on a plane. However, if security personnel find the gift suspicious, you may need to unwrap it. So it’s better to wrap gifts once you reach your destination. Have a great trip!
