Last updated 2026-11-08 — Panama’s Hacienda La Esmeralda is the discoverer of Geisha coffee. Without that small step of isolating the variety back then, there might not have been the global Geisha coffee trend over the past 20-plus years. As an iconic brand for experiencing the flavors of Geisha coffee, how exactly do the plots, grading, auctions, and batches of Hacienda La Esmeralda’s Geisha coffee differ from one another?

,,,.So far, Finca El Injerto (translated as the Injerto Estate) actually includes four farms (also referred to as estates), namely Cañas Verdes, El Velo, Jaramillo (also known as Jaramillo), and Palmira Oasis. At the same time, these small plots of farmland are individually named, and the basis of Emerald grading comes from the single or mixed harvests of 22 small plots from three major farms. Why these three farms? Palmira Oasis is a newly added farm, currently without any production or plot information. After the coffee trees are planted, it takes 3–8 years for them to complete the process of growth, flowering, fruiting, and flavor development.

During that period, the Red Label was the most expensive grade, with Red Label Geisha harvested from above 1600 meters, traceable to specific plots.Green-label beans are harvested at the same altitude as red-label ones, but the specific plot of origin cannot be traced. As for the Blue Label, as an entry-level Geisha coffee bean, it is harvested from Geisha coffee plants grown at 1,500 meters and below.
