【Taichung Hidden Gem】Not Just Taitung—Turns Out There’s Also a Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree in Taichung!

In Chihshang, Taitung, 30 years ago, it was just a small tree used to tie cattle. Later, when EVA Air shot an “I SEE YOU” commercial featuring Takeshi Kaneshiro, this little tree became overnight an internationally renowned “Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree,” attracting countless visitors on pilgrimages.

And in Taichung, there’s also a “Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree” located in Nantun District. This century-old banyan tree has drawn attention in recent years due to its striking resemblance. Research reveals that this banyan, nestled amid lush green rice fields, has a history of 100 years. Locals call it the “Qing Rong Gong” (Green Banyan Elder) and have built a small shrine to honor it. The rice field paths around the tree are hand-laid with stone, giving off a uniquely vintage charm.

A simple little tree can become an overnight sensation not just because of star power, but due to its own allure. To stand tall for a century, beyond the tree’s vitality, the surrounding environment plays a crucial role.
