【Featured Travelogue】Savoring Coffee and Exploring History in Vietnam

Vietnamese coffee is quite famous and offers a very different experience from American-style coffee. Earlier, our Local Tour also took us to a local Vietnamese coffee shop in Đà Nẵng. Now, let’s visit a more thematically distinctive café in Đà Nẵng.

It turns out that this Cong Caphe Da Nang is quite well-known—even just handing the driver the name of the shop was enough for him to know where it is. But as a backup, I of course had the address ready. This Cong Caphe Da Nang has two floors and is very bustling, with people coming and going. However, if you’re looking for a quieter spot, you can head to the second-floor lounge area.

If you’ve tried Vietnamese coffee and want to sample other types, the coconut coffee and cheese coffee at Cong Caphe Da Nang are highly recommended by me. The coconut coffee (left side in the image below) features a large ball of coconut ice that not only smells richly of coconut but also creates a delightful blend with the coffee—neither flavor overpowering the other—and provides a refreshing, cooling effect.

But an even bigger surprise comes from the cheese coffee. We were probably too confident about the coconut coffee, thinking it couldn’t go wrong, but it turned out the cheese coffee delivered an unexpectedly delightful twist. The sweet-and-sour taste of the cheese mellows out the usual bitterness of the coffee, and taking a big sip lets you enjoy both flavors together. If you like cheese and coffee, the combination here won’t disappoint.

Cong Caphe Da Nang is themed around the Vietnamese Communist Party. The army-green walls have a slightly worn look, preserving some traces of time. The decor—walls adorned with Vietnamese photos, wooden chairs covered in floral fabric, handmade tables, and more—are all infused with a Viet Cong aesthetic, giving visitors a feel for life in Vietnam during earlier times.

Located on a busy main street, grab a seat near the window at Cong Caphe Da Nang, watch the bustling street scene, and take a moment to relax and enjoy your coffee time.
