A Taiwanese-run café makes the list too: 2018’s Top 5 Must-Try Coffees in Tokyo

The Japanese love of coffee is well known—whether it's a cup to perk up during work or a break at a café in the afternoon, it has become an indispensable part of life. Recently, well-known Japanese company Panasonic announced the “2018 Tokyo Top 5 Must-Try Coffees,” among which the “DoMo Café” opened by Taiwan’s DoMo Group in Tokyo was also selected, becoming the only international brand on the list—an impressive feat.

Panasonic Group recently conducted a selection for the 2018 Tokyo Top 5 Must-Try Coffees, not only keeping the selection process strictly confidential but also praising DoMo Café as the coffee that connects Taiwan and Japan in Tokyo’s Kichijoji area. It brings Taiwanese characteristics to Japan and is deeply loved by local Japanese women.

DoMo Café uses coffee beans from Taiwan’s award-winning roaster Fika Fika and from Kyoto’s renowned Caffe Verdi in Japan, carefully selecting for high coffee quality. In addition to coffee, DoMo Café also offers traditional Taiwanese almond tea, and its modern interior design attracts many Japanese female customers.

DoMo Café opened in Tokyo in September 2017 and has only been in operation for nine months, yet it was selected for the “2018 Tokyo Top 5 Must-Try Coffees” recommended list. Facing Japan, a major Asian coffee-consuming nation, a café run by Taiwanese being recognized by the Japanese is truly an impressive and honorable achievement.
