Tokyo Disneyland Lost Out!: Top 10 Foreign Visitor Browsing Rankings

Tokyo has many must-visit popular attractions, including Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo Skytree, and Senso-ji Temple. According to data published by a well-known gourmet restaurant guide, from April 2017 to March 2018, the most viewed was Ameyoko Shopping Street, followed by Kappabashi Dori, with Tokyo Disneyland only ranking 8th.

The data was compiled by a gourmet restaurant guide website in collaboration with 37 companies, including Tokyu Corporation, organizing foreign visitor browsing rankings by categories such as sightseeing and food, collecting and publishing approximately 4,000 data entries. The top browsed spots in the sightseeing category were mostly shopping streets, showing a trend where they are more popular than traditional tourist attractions.

The browsing champion is Ameyoko Shopping Street in Ueno, which stretches about 400 meters and is one of Tokyo’s famous open-air shopping streets. Visitors can find a wide variety of items here, including snacks, cosmetics, numerous food options, as well as hidden vintage clothing stores and fashion boutiques tucked away in alleys, making it very popular among young travelers.

Among the sightseeing category, the top five are all shopping streets, while the famous Tokyo Disneyland only ranks 8th. Meanwhile, Tsukiji Market and Senso-ji Temple, which took the top two spots in the 2016 survey report, did not even make it into the top 10 this year.
