A sea of 10,000 hydrangeas—so romantic！Kyoto’s top hydrangea viewing spot

Located in Kyoto, Sanmotsu-ji Temple is a renowned flower-viewing destination in Kansai. The temple offers different flower seas throughout the year, and when June arrives—the season of hydrangeas—over 10,000 hydrangeas of more than 50 varieties bloom. At night, the area is also lit up, creating a romantic and enchanting scene.

10,000 hydrangeas bloom every June
Sanmotsu-ji Temple is the tenth sacred site of the Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage (a temple enshrining a holy talisman). In front of the main hall stands the Fortune Rabbit, carved from granite. The jade stone embraced by the rabbit holds an egg-shaped stone inside, and it is said that if you successfully stand the stone upright, your wish will come true. Additionally, the temple features a stone snake statue of Ugajin, the deity of wealth, which is believed to bring good luck and prosperity when touched.
