4.5 million pink fluttering flowers create a dreamy sea of blossoms, blending flowers and sky in harmony at Hitachi Seaside Park

In Japan’s spring, in addition to the delicate pink cherry blossoms, there’s also a dreamy sea of blue and purple flowers. The renowned Ibaraki Prefecture flower viewing spot, Hitachi Seaside Park, offers a rich variety of blooms and vast, open views. From April to May each year, up to 4.5 million Kochia scoparia (also known as Pink Flutter or Fluttering Hearts) burst into bloom, creating a vast blue-purple floral carpet that gives visitors a magical, fairytale-like feeling.

Hitachi Seaside Park boasts a rich diversity of flowers. In spring alone, there are successive blooms of narcissus, tulips, and pink flutter flowers. Especially in late April, the expansive sea of blue-purple pink flutter blossoms creates a spectacular scene where flowers and sky merge, leaving an unforgettable impression and has become one of Ibaraki Prefecture’s major tourism events in recent years.

In April, in addition to the pink flutter flower seas covering the hillsides, there are also golden rapeseed flowers and brightly colored tulips. Visitors traveling during this season can enjoy three types of flower seas in one trip. The pink flutter flowers are mainly found on Kanko no Oka (Scenic Hill), where the vast flower fields offer sea views as a backdrop when viewed from different angles, and the rapeseed flowers can serve as the foreground for viewing.
