Giant installation art that’s a must-see for families and perfect for photo ops at the fairy-tale art festival

The 2018 Keelung Fairy-Tale Art Festival debuted in April with the theme “Childlike Hearts Bloom, Futures Set Sail,” presenting five days of vibrant events. Iconic fairy-tale figures such as Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio, and the Big Bad Wolf were showcased throughout the area around Keelung Harbor. The site featured numerous giant installation artworks and painted fabric landscapes, making it a fantastic destination for children during the holiday break.

The Fairy-Tale Art Festival events were held across three main venues: Ocean Plaza, in front of the Cultural Center, and the Yangming Marine Culture and Art Museum. The stepped theater in front of the Yangming Marine Culture and Art Museum hosted fairy-tale children’s plays from 3:30 pm to 4:10 pm daily; Ocean Plaza featured fairy-tale-themed dress-up, interactive activities, and concerts, while Civic Square offered free tastings of local seafood delicacies.

This year’s festival also introduced an eco-friendly installation art piece called “Color Keelung,” which sorted dyed fabrics by color and assembled them into a large color spectrum displayed at Ocean Plaza. After the exhibition, the cotton fabric was recycled to make beverage cup sleeves, which were distributed for free to consumers at various bubble tea shops across Keelung.
