This spring in Taipei kicks off with two events: the “2018 Taipei Azalea Season” and “Interesting Southern Taipei.” The “2018 Taipei Azalea Season” is now being held on a larger scale at Da’an Forest Park.

The cultural organization of Taipei’s southern district and the Taipei City Government jointly organized the “2018 Interesting Southern Taipei,” which runs from April 1 to April 8. With the intersection of Chongqing South Road and Nanhai Road as the core, the event connects 14 nearby venues and over 70 shops. Coinciding with the Children’s Day holiday, a week-long series of activities including music, theater, film, and markets, centered around families and children, will unfold, together creating this spring’s most interesting carnival in Taipei.

The cultural organization has specially arranged a special exhibition titled “Time-Traveling Adventure – The Starting Point of Discovering Southern Taipei” on the first floor of the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s building, Space NO.1, to kick off the “2018 Interesting Southern Taipei” series.
The cultural organization hopes to create an exhibition suitable for family enjoyment that combines fun with education, providing the public with more local public spaces. The exhibition area uses new media art and creative interactions, allowing both adults and children to learn about southern Taipei through play. The highlight of the special exhibition is a small slide at the entrance, inviting children to begin their journey of discovering southern Taipei.
In addition to the exhibition, the cultural organization has also collaborated with Taipei City Walking to plan four walking routes: heritage & culture, theater, hipster, and family-friendly. With guided tours and a stamp-collecting game, the public is invited to stroll and explore southern Taipei.

The “Interesting Southern Taipei” series officially launched on April 1. On the opening day, a “Southern Taipei Kids’ Festival” was held on Quanzhou Street and at the Nanhua Campus, where the cultural organization placed a carousel and pirate ship on the street to create an urban playground. In the afternoon, the opening ceremony featured two wonderful performances by the “Paper Windmill Children’s Theater Troupe,” inviting families to enjoy the fun together.

On April 2 and 3, various performers of different styles were invited to put on the eye-catching “Southern Taipei Rhapsody” flash mob performances at Exit 2 of Zhongzheng Memorial Hall MRT Station. On April 4 and 5, activities will be centered around the once-famous old bookstore street of Taipei, “Guling Street,” featuring a “Spring Book Bazaar.” Combining specialty book stalls, the event offers old books with a fresh twist, along with creative craft booths and street lectures to revive the artistic atmosphere of Guling Street.
