Even Japanese tourists love Taiwan's six hidden gems free from crowds

Taiwan has many stunning hidden spots that even attract foreign tourists. Recently, a micro-film online advertisement was based on the story of a Japanese backpacker, taking viewers on a tour of domestic hidden gems and attractions through the director’s lens.

1. Miaoli – Wu Gayaan Bamboo Tunnel
Located in Tai’an Township, Miaoli, besides numerous campsites, there is also a narrow bamboo trail just wide enough for one car, where you can experience the charm of traditional Chinese landscape painting and the serene beauty of Arashiyama-like forests. Additionally, above the bamboo path lies the Wu Gayaan Scenic Campsite, offering not only dazzling sunlight and ever-changing sea of clouds, but also a luxurious natural night view that’s definitely worth a visit.

Transportation: Navigate to Wu Gayaan Campsite (No. 63-10, Lane 3, Daxing Village, Tai’an Township, Miaoli County), turn right at the “Ge Ge Na Li” campsite onto a small industrial road. The location is below Wu Gayaan.

2. Hsinchu – Xinpian Persimmon Drying Farms
Rows of bright yellow persimmons are displayed on wooden racks, creating a spectacular and beautiful scene. The persimmon drying farms in Xinpian, Hsinchu, during autumn (approximately from September to January each year) offer a limited-time scenic view that attracts many visitors every year, making it a great place to experience rural Taiwan.

3. Changhua – Wanggong Fishing Port
Located in the Changbin area, Wanggong Fishing Port is famous across Taiwan for its abundant production of Wanggong oysters. The beautiful seascape and impressive oyster farms are iconic sights here. The “Oyster Art Rainbow Tunnel” outside the Wanggong Story House is also one of the must-photo spots on Instagram. Made by stringing colorful oyster shells together along the entire tunnel, it is also referred to by netizens as the “Rainbow Pride Tunnel.” 

Bus: Take a Yuanlin Bus from Changhua City to Erhlin, and get off at Wanggong
Driving: 1. Exit at Changhua Interchange from National Freeway 1, take Zhonglu Road to Lukang Town, then go south along Provincial Highway 17 to Fangyuan Township. 2. Exit at Yuanlin Interchange from National Freeway 1, take Yuanlu Road and Erxi Road to reach Fangyuan.
