Commuters can save NT$1,000 a month！Double the convenience, double the savings—public transport passes cut travel costs in Taipei and New Taipei

Whether you're a daily commuter or a short-term overseas visitor staying in the Greater Taipei area, you likely rely heavily on public transportation. Not only is the MRT bustling every day, but buses and YouBikes are also commonly used modes of transport. Now, you no longer have to worry about daily commuting expenses. Taipei and New Taipei have introduced a new transport subscription pass that can even help regular office commuters or short-term visitors save up to NT$1,000 a month！

The transport subscription pass, launched on April 16, is priced at NT$1,280. It allows unlimited rides on the MRT and buses in Taipei and New Taipei for 30 days. Additionally, those who purchase the pass can enjoy the first 30 minutes of YouBike rides for free—a service many riders love. For example, taking the MRT from Taipei Zoo Station to Tamsui Station with an EasyCard at a 20% discount costs NT$104 for a round trip. With 22 working days, that adds up to NT$2,288. By using the transport subscription pass instead, you can save approximately NT$1,000！The news has been welcomed as a great benefit for commuters and a smart way for short-term visitors to the Greater Taipei area to cut down on travel costs.

The pass went on sale on March 13. Existing EasyCard standard cards, co-branded EasyCards, or EasyDebit cards (with a validity period of over 60 days) can be used to purchase the pass at ticket counters in Taipei MRT stations or via automatic ticket vending and top-up machines. The pass becomes valid for use on April 16. After activation, users can tap their EasyCards at MRT gates or bus validators to start using the pass.

With the transport subscription pass, you no longer need to worry about every penny spent on fares. The city government also stated that it hopes the pass will help reduce traffic congestion and encourage more people to use public transportation.
