Hand-painted Taiwan’s Finest: IRIS Travel Creates in Xilaya ⟦

Taiwan’s first national scenic area named after the Pingpu indigenous group, “Siraya,” has introduced a new cultural tourism program starting this March. Visitors can enjoy mountain and water adventures, explore history, and appreciate cross-border artistic creations. Seattle-based finger painting artist Iris Scott has planned a three-month “Siraya Travel Art Exhibition,” featuring 25 artworks that blend the essence of Siraya, offering visitors a visual feast.

To enrich the leisure functions of the Meiling Visitor Information Station in the Siraya National Scenic Area, the management office specially invited artist Iris Scott to create art themed around the Siraya National Scenic Area as part of a “travel and paint” initiative. Through her paintings, she conveys her deep impressions of “rural tourism” in Siraya. During the exhibition period, she completed 25 artworks, which are displayed at the Meiling Visitor Information Station, with one piece retained by the organizing committee as a collection after the exhibition.

Hailing from Seattle, Iris developed a keen sensitivity to color and line from an early age through her intimate connection with nature. She paints using finger sleeves, as the loose oil texture and uncontrollable viscosity produce ever-changing yet beautiful forms. The “Siraya Travel Art Exhibition” will run until June 16. When visiting Meiling in Nansi Township, Tainan County, in addition to savoring delicious plum chicken, don’t miss the chance to explore the limitless possibilities of finger painting art at the Meiling Visitor Information Station. Iris’s finger-painted works capture a profound impression of Taiwan, and may even inspire visitors to see Siraya in a whole new light.

Beyond art exhibitions, the “Wushantou Reservoir 2010 Cherry Blossom Festival” has also begun. The South Asian cherry blossoms planted by technician Yoichi Hatta himself within the park have now blossomed. Wushantou Scenic Area offers visitors the option to print a NT$40 discount coupon on the official website (valid for full-price tickets of NT$200).
