Meet the masters and savor the art of life in Hsinchu

As a high-tech hub in Taiwan, Hsinchu City boasts abundant cultural resources and a rich natural environment. From the widely renowned snacks at the City God Temple and the local specialty Zhujian Cake, to the Film Museum and Glass Art Museum, as well as the recently famous "Hsinchu Rice Noodles and Meatball Festival," the charm of Zhujian is irresistible even to foreign visitors.

To promote cultural and artistic heritage and spark an academic trend in humanities and arts education in Hsinchu City, the Hsinchu City Government has organized the "Meet the Masters Art Lecture Series" every Saturday afternoon for 11 consecutive weeks starting mid-to-late March at Air Force 11 Village. The series invites experts and enthusiasts from various fields such as food, travel, illustration, wine appreciation, literature, history, philosophy, and folk arts to engage with the public. In this richly artistic atmosphere, through lively lectures and face-to-face interactions with the masters, the public can easily get close to and understand the arts, allowing art to blend into everyday life.

Chen Hong, a culinary master born in Hsinchu, has traveled all over the world but still holds a special fondness for the Hsinchu cuisine filled with childhood memories. Hsinchu’s food combines tradition and innovation, with the most famous spot being the snacks around the City God Temple. Since the Japanese colonial era, it has been a hub for street food. Centered around the historic City God Temple, nearly 50 food stalls surround the temple, many run by old families who have passed down their recipes for three or four generations. Here, you can enjoy Hsinchu’s three famous specialties—rice noodles, rice balls, and meatballs—as well as uniquely local delicacies.

The "Meet the Masters Art Lecture Series" runs until the end of May, every Saturday afternoon from 14:30 to 16:30, at the Air Force 11 Village Art Lecture Hall (formerly the Sister Museum). The first session is led by Chen Hong with the theme "Treasures in Hsinchu’s Alleys," taking participants on a culinary journey through the city’s hidden food spots. On March 27, renowned singer Wang Zhongping will share "Stories of a Musician." Courses in April and May feature storyteller He Biyu, writer Ke Zuoching, environmental lecturer Zhang Dengkai, aesthetic artist and Taipei Normal University lecturer Lin Huimei, floral art professor Zhou Huatan, and travel expert Guan Yaohui, who will respectively present on topics such as "Parent-Child Storytelling Fun," "My Special Skills," "Life Lessons from Nature," "The Artist’s Path: Creative Living Through Art," "The Art of Flower Arrangement and Tasteful Living," and "The Dream Path of a New Visual Travel Photographer."

The art lecture themes cover various aspects of life, enriching daily living with practical aesthetics. The events promise to be exciting, and registration is free.
