If you're looking to see a sea of maple trees that rivals those abroad, Xiulan Village in Jianshi Township, Hsinchu, is a top choice for many. However, over the past week, the village has experienced consecutive landslides. Starting from the afternoon of the 26th, there was even a sudden large-scale collapse, with large amounts of earth and rocks sliding downhill, and numerous boulders stuck halfway up the mountain. This has not only affected local residents but also disrupted external transportation, further hindering tourists’ quest to chase the “maple” scenery.

Located in Jianshi Township, Hsinchu County, Xiulan Village — particularly the Kongxi Suspension Bridge, Jiànjiàn Rock Suspension Bridge, and Jiànjiàn Rock area — is one of the most famous sights in late autumn. This area boasts the highest concentration of maple forests in Taiwan, with panoramic views of surrounding crimson leaves. However, due to the severe landslides over the past week, vast stretches of woodland have been devastated by mudflows. Many local farmers’ orchards have also been ruthlessly washed away. In addition, the village’s only medical station, the Mackay Clinic, as well as the village office, may be inaccessible due to landslide-related transportation disruptions. It is advised that the public avoid visiting the area for the time being.

The renowned Smangus Tribe in Xiulan Village stated that since the collapse occurred not on the road but on the riverbed opposite, road traffic is not currently affected. Any impact will be announced if it arises.
