Wine lovers all know that premium vineyards are typically found between 30 and 50 degrees north or south latitude—the so-called Wine Belt. So how is it possible for Thailand, located between 14 and 18 degrees south of the equator, to produce high-quality wine? Yet this top-tier winery in Thailand, PB Valley, has defied expectations, producing world-class wines on a large scale, making it a rising star in the wine world following the emergence of the New World wine regions in Central and South America.

PB Valley’s Khao Yai Winery is located near Khao Yai National Park in northeastern Thailand, where the air is fresh, the altitude ranges from about 300 to 500 meters, and annual rainfall reaches an abundant 1,200–1,500 millimeters—ensuring the grapes receive timely nourishment during their growing season. Winter spans from October to February, with average daytime temperatures of around 18–20°C and nighttime temperatures of 12–14°C, dropping as low as 7°C. These favorable terrain and climatic conditions have made PB Valley a remarkable new wine belt exclamation point at 14.3 degrees south latitude.

The PB Valley winery covers an area of 3,000 square meters, with semi-automatic bottling employed throughout the facility. To enhance flavor, the pressed grape juice is aged in French oak barrels and stabilized in stainless steel tanks. With such mature technology and a 400-hectare planting area, the estate produces 600,000 bottles annually—a key factor in PB Valley becoming the largest winery in Southeast Asia. Currently, PB Valley mainly produces wine varieties including Shiraz, Chenin Blanc, Rosé, and Tempranillo, catering to the preferences of most wine drinkers.

Aside from producing premium wines, PB Valley, like wine regions around the world, also offers professional wine-tasting tours. The wine tour itinerary was honored with Thailand’s Tourism Authority’s Best Travel Award in 2008. Comfortable accommodations with simple yet rustic charm are also available. Located about 146 kilometers northeast of Bangkok, it’s an ideal destination for short trips. With great wine comes great food—The Great Hornbill Grill Restaurant within PB Valley offers over 100 dishes and seats 200 guests.
