Bangkok Airport Rail Link Officially Launched
After the launch of Southeast Asia’s largest aviation hub, Suvarnabhumi Airport, in 2006, which has contributed to remarkable annual increases in tourist numbers in Thailand, the Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link was officially opened on August 23, 2010, to provide more convenient services for visitors. The rail link reduces travel time from the airport to downtown Bangkok to just 15 minutes. Passengers can also choose regular trains that connect to the metro or MRT, depending on their needs, further elevating the ease of traveling in Thailand.
Bangkok Airport Train
The Suvarnabhumi Airport Link (SARL) spans 28 kilometers, connecting the airport in Samut Prakan Province, eastern Bangkok, to the Makkasan area where Bangkok’s City Air Terminal (CAT) is located.
From August 23 until the end of this year, promotional fare discounts will be available on the Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link. The operator is the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
The Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link offers two types of services: regular and express. The trains can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h. The express service takes just 15 minutes to reach Bangkok’s City Air Terminal. Operating hours are from 6:00 AM to midnight.

In the future, passengers will be able to check in their luggage directly at the City Air Terminal while riding the Airport Rail Link. This luggage check-in service is being developed jointly by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and the Airports of Thailand (AoT), with plans to roll it out fully by the end of the year.
