Recently launched by Hong Kong’s Mobile Guide company, the mobile travel guide “ask Ting Ting” includes videos, attraction introductions, point-to-point satellite navigation, and interactively introduces tourists to great places to visit in Hong Kong. This system comes preloaded with information on over 600 tourist hotspots, and features Malaysian-Chinese actress Sarah Lian (连丽婷) as the host, taking you to explore famous sights, shopping, dining, and recreational hotspots. The name of this mobile travel guide is derived from the “Ting” (婷) in Sarah Lian’s name.

In an era where iPhones and Google Android devices dominate, why would developers still offer a preloaded, interactive guide like “ask Ting Ting”? Regarding this, Matthias Hendrichs, the head of Mobile Guide and the product designer, explained that since “ask Ting Ting” contains over 2.2GB of content, downloading it online would be too burdensome. Additionally, the system features a large amount of video content, and streaming it continuously over the internet can affect playback smoothness.
Currently, three hotel operators—CHI Residences, Le Méridien Cyberport, and The Fleming—are using this service. While using the system, users will also occasionally see promotional messages. The content of “ask Ting Ting” will be updated regularly to ensure the latest information is available, and it comes equipped with all the communication features travelers expect.
