No need for an introduction—just look at this spread and you know it’s something amazing!Double Moon Brand Satay HotpotIn Tainan, it's almost impossible to get a seat, and it hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. Within half a year of opening, it became all the rage. Nini, who is from Tainan and has many friends there, saw friends posting about it on Facebook not long after it opened. Every time, the Facebook photos made her want to go. She planned to eat there when she returned to Tainan, but then within a few months, Travel King actually went to report on it. When I saw Travel King’s episode air, I almost cried—I kept thinking, “When will I ever be able to get a reservation?!” Later, I found out that Double Moon Brand Satay Hotpot was opening a branch in Taipei, and I was over the moon!! (Immediately set off firecrackers)

Nini’s little review: Authentic Tainan-style satay hotpot + an abundant seafood steaming platter—absolutely satisfying and full of ocean flavors.

Double Moon Brand has come to Taipei, and it’s still just as hard to book a table—no signs of holding back. Nini booked a month in advance, but the shop said that on Saturday the only available slot was 10 PM, or 8 PM on Sunday. After discussing with friends, we decided to head over on Saturday night. We were so excited when we arrived that we rushed straight into the shop and forgot to take a photo of the sign. We didn’t come out until the shop closed, and the sign was already off!
Utensils and sauces are self-serve.

Includes special satay sauce, scallions, chili, garlic, soy sauce, white vinegar, and more.
Self-serve drink station.

Self-serve hotpot ingredients.

Since it’s a hotpot restaurant from Tainan, they’ve also added a variety of Tainan-style hotpot ingredients, such as Tainan mushroom and shrimp paste, Tainan squid paste, Tainan dumplings, fish rolls, and more.

Maybe it was because it was 10 PM, but the refrigerated cabinet was pretty empty. When we got there, there were only two final plates of vegetables left. We asked the staff to restock, but they said business was so good that the vegetables were all gone. Why are you all eating so many veggies?! (Just kidding)

The pricing at Double Moon Brand Satay Hotpot is as follows:
Base hotpot broth is free
Small seafood tower: $330 per layer
Large seafood tower: $650 per layer
(In Tainan, it’s $300/$600)
Minimum order is 2 layers (shellfish, shrimp), up to 5 layers. To order crab, squid, or other seafood, you’ll need to order at least 3 layers (seafood is randomly selected based on daily catch)
Limited meat options: $200 per plate (fresh pork/beef, hamburger patties pork/beef)
Besides the hotpot toppings, we also added fresh beef and hamburger patties. Just casually placing them on the table made it look like a festive New Year’s Eve dinner!

Vegetables: $60They looked very fresh, but sadly not enough for five people!

Handmade egg dumplings: $80Handmade ones are always the best.

Tainan fish rolls: $100

A Tainan specialty — “fish rolls.” In ancient times, books were rolled up, and since these are made by rolling fish paste into shapes resembling ancient scrolls, they’re called fish rolls.
Squid Paste from Tainan - $220(Must-order)

Fresh Beef - $200

Pork Patty - $200(The staff said this one should go in last)

Every time a seafood tower is ready to be served, the staff rings a bell, and all the customers can't help but gather around to watch it being taken out.

Our seafood tower is here, Up!(Watch the video ↓) Since the ingredients are randomly selected by the shop, every layer you open feels like a surprise!
We ordered five small layers.

With steam rising, on this cold winter day, just looking at it makes you feel so warm and happy! Everyone is here, let’s just have our New Year’s Eve dinner here — it’s so lavish!

The authentic Tainan-style satay hotpot base is usually simmered with flatfish and dried shrimp to enhance the umami. The Shuangyue-brand satay hotpot also stays true to the classic Tainan flavor, plus the saltiness of other seafood. After repeated boiling, the taste becomes slightly saltier. It's recommended to scoop out some of the flatfish at the beginning! The shellfish served that day came in four types (bamboo clam, blood cockle, clam, and razor clam). The bamboo clam is the long, thin, bamboo-like shellfish in the last photo — its texture is chewier than regular clams, and the taste is hard to describe. The blood cockle is very bouncy and crispy — super fresh and delicious!

Let’s compare the sizes — some are really quite big.

The clams here are super fresh, and you can clearly see their translucent, semi-transparent meat — that’s the key to why they’re so juicy when eaten!

White shrimp — the more you eat, the more you want.

Sliced squid.

So fresh and springy! It reminds you of Penghu!

Crab — two per small layer, but sadly there’s not much meat, so it’s not very satisfying.

Steamed fish with garlic — the garlic flavor is rich and fragrant.

Pork patty — everyone felt it didn’t quite go with the hotpot.

This is super delicious! Nini guessed the squid paste must have been freshly ground that day. It’s so Q, sweet, and fresh, with an incredibly bouncy texture, and you can actually chew on big chunks of squid. Everyone couldn’t stop eating and quietly went back to the fridge to get another plate.

Seeing the neighboring table boldly order a large seafood tower, we immediately went over to take a picture.

When the large seafood tower was brought out, it was so big it almost didn’t fit on a 10-person table!

My hand looks so tiny next to it.

The large tower comes with four crabs (the shop may adjust the quantity depending on the size of the crabs that day).

Just after we marveled at the neighbor’s large seafood tower, the boss suddenly announced a “Rock-Paper-Scissors Giveaway!” Each table sends one representative to play rock-paper-scissors, and the winning table gets a whole large seafood tower layer! In the end, the neighbors won again — their table was practically overflowing. We kept wondering if they needed to move some to our table. Everyone was curious about what the prize layer would be, so when the boss brought it out, we all peeked over to the neighbors’ table. Turns out, it was crabs! The boss is so generous~~ Giving away crabs! Think that’s the end? No no no~ (shakes head) Then the boss made another announcement — “Bonus Giveaway!” Order a large layer and get $100 off~ (with drums and gongs) Everyone was having such a great time and without hesitation decided to add a large layer of clams — so big, so full!

Compared with the small layer, the small one looks totally overshadowed. Even this discounted set, which only has one type of clam, was still super satisfying.

The best part of eating at Shuangyue-brand satay hotpot is sipping the broth. The essence of each seafood layer slowly accumulates in the bottom of the pot — oh my god! What Lee Shengjie sang about “a sea between two people in a double bed” is nothing — one sip of this broth fills your mouth with the entire Pacific Ocean! Fish, shrimp, crab, shellfish, mollusks — all kinds of sea flavors burst on your taste buds. This late-night meal was so fun and exhilarating! We felt Shuangyue-brand satay hotpot is really perfect for group gatherings. After ringing in the New Year with friends, when your hands and feet are freezing, coming here for a continuation meal together feels so warm and happy! During Chinese New Year, the whole family can huddle up here too — it’s really suitable for any day.
